I år jobber Rytmisk Ungdomskor med spirituals – en sjanger med røtter, kraft og aktualitet! Gjennom konserter på hjemmebane inviterer vi publikum med inn i et musikalsk landskap som er både gripende, rytmisk og dypt forankret i historie.
Årets prosjekt er noe helt spesielt. Rytmisk Ungdomskor har fått med seg den anerkjente dirigenten, komponisten og arrangøren Anthony Trecek-King fra Boston, USA. Han har både høy faglig kompetanse og en personlig tilknytning til spirituals – musikken som vokste fram blant slaver i det amerikanske sør, og som har formet store deler av den rytmiske musikktradisjonen i dag.
Sammen med Anthony utforsker sangerne hvordan spirituals både er en musikkform og en historiefortelling – en kunstform som uttrykker håp, motstand, fellesskap og lengsel. “We create a community to explore the music and history of spirituals together,” sier Anthony. Det merkes.
Med kun to samlinger med Anthony klarer de allikevel gjøre et dypdykk. Sangerne lærer om hvordan sangene ble overført muntlig, hvordan de har utviklet seg, og hvordan de fortsatt setter tydelige spor i populærmusikk og samtidskultur.

This year, Rytmisk Ungdomskor is working with spirituals – a genre with roots, power and relevance! Through concerts at home, we invite the audience into a musical landscape that is both gripping, rhythmic and deeply rooted in history.
This year’s project is something very special. Rytmisk Ungdomskor has brought on board the renowned conductor, composer and arranger Anthony Trecek-King from Boston, USA. He has both high professional competence and a personal connection to spirituals – the music that grew up among slaves in the American South, and which has shaped large parts of the rhythmic music tradition today.
Together with Anthony, the singers explore how spirituals are both a form of music and a story – an art form that expresses hope, resistance, community and longing. “We create a community to explore the music and history of spirituals together,” says Anthony. It’s noticeable.
With only two sessions with Anthony, they still manage to do a deep dive. The singers learn about how the songs were transmitted orally, how they have developed, and how they still leave a clear mark on popular music and contemporary culture.
